No18 Interiors Style Guide

Edition 4: Home Bar Vs Gin Bar

I can’t quite believe I’m writing this…it’s been some 40+ years since their official hiatus…and a quirky styling item has resurrected itself from the 1970’s with a huge metallic bang.

But what are we referring to do I hear you say?

The well dressed, well stocked, drinks trolley/home bar of course.

Like them or loathe them, they’re here to stay!

Our favourite spirits and wines are no longer banished to the back of our odds and sods booze cupboard. We’ve now taken to displaying bottles like works of art in their own right. Taking pride of place in an eye catching wine rack, drinks trolley or mirrored cocktail cabinet.

We’ve started show casing them off to friends like a shoe/bag collection only the rich and famous can afford. Ensuring only the very best gin and vodka brands get to call our drinks cabinets home…and secretly hoping no-one ever actually wants a drink from our well thought out spirit collection.

I mean, seriously, when you offer a friend a G&T and they actually say yes…do they not understand the precision and time that’s gone into creating this masterpiece.

In all seriousness, we can’t even call drinks trolleys an interiors trend or a gimmic. Like them or loathe them, they are  here to stay!

all the gear and no idea?…no18’s drinks trolley styling tips

1) Colour Contrast:

Don’t be afraid to use multicoloured bottles. Rhubarb gin might be your favourite, but the pink bottle contrasting a Bombay blue, looks fabulous

2) Quirky Items:

Consider introducing quirky styling items…perhaps a small framed print featuring a personalised drinks menu, or a stack of cocktail making books

3) Glass Variation:

Display tumblers and champagne flutes, the height variance creates further depth to your drinks cart display

4) Large To Small:

This might seem obvious, but place your larger bottles at the back and display other bottles an items in height order, smallest to the front…this way nothing gets lost

5) Less Is More:

Yes we have just said that…Try not to cram the entire contents of Tesco’s gin shelves onto your home drinks trolley. Pick your favourite bottles and leave lots of space between items

No18’s home bar recommendations

3 TIER DRINKS TROLLEY

3  tiers of polished stainless steel require filling with your favourite bottles and spirits. This piece provides enough space to display all your favourites, whilst having a smaller 2nd tier to show off your cocktail shaker and bottle opener.

6 BOTTLE WINE RACK

With the capacity to hold 6 wine bottles, a handy shelf for the ice bucket and cocktail shaker and even a place to display the very best wine glasses, you could most definitely say our 6 bottle wall mounted wine rack has it all!
